Counselling Casework Supervision
Current Fees: Trainee Counsellors - £20 (1 hr) Qualified Practitioners £30 (1 hr) Group - £5 (2hrs)
Casework supervision for counsellors in training and qualified practitioners in one-to-one and group settings is offered. A blend of supervision models are used - appropriate to the supervisee's counselling approach and individual development needs:
- Systems - Page & Wosket, Carroll
- Process - Hawkins & Shohet
- Developmental - Stoltenberg & Delworth
Supervision in this context is defined as a formal process to ensure monitoring of ethical practice. It provides support and on-going development for the therapist and the 'over-viewing' of the therapeutic work with the client to ensure that their best interests are being met.
Ethical practice is being clear and explicit about counselling and the counselling relationship, especially:
- the arrangement for contact, meetings, payment and endings
- respecting the client's autonomy
- confidentiality
- acknowledging the roles of others in the client's world
- boundaries around - own competence, behaviour, emotional connection
- saying 'no' especially if uneasy or doubtful
- reviewing with the client and clarifying misunderstandings
- not getting into emotional or physical overload
- using supervision and consultation effectively
